C.O. Moed grew up on New York’s Lower East Side when it was still a tough neighborhood.
A recipient of the Elizabeth George Grant for Fiction and a Rockefeller Media Arts nominee, she is also an alum of the groundbreaking WOW Café.
Overcoming an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University and an MFA in Media Studies-Film from City College, she has worked every legal job possible to support her need to tell stories, including as a terrible busboy, a very good housecleaner, a bewildered researcher of secondary illegal drug markets and addiction hot spots, and an exhausted Press Officer and Editor at the Meetings Coverage Section of the United Nations.
MY PRIVATE CONEY, Her blog (2008-2016) about New York City, family, love, death and the meaning of home has been featured in Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York, and excerpted in various online magazines and websites.
Her debut memoir, It Was Her New York: True Stories and Snapshots (Rootstock Publishing, 2024) was a BookLife Editor's Pick, Kirkus “Get It” Review, winner of the Firebird Book Award Judges' Pick, and a quarterfinalist in the 2024 BookLife Prize in Memoir/Autobiography, receiving the highest score of a ten rating. She studies poetry with Estha Weiner, who puts up with her spotty punctuation.
She has lived “uptown” in the East Village for the past 50 years and shares her home with fellow writer Ted Krever and Sweet William the cat. They are all Mets fans.
